Teak is not a rainforest timber. It grows best on higher dry ground and is an ideal plantation timber.
Teak is native to India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina, including Indonesia, particularly Java. It is extensively cultvated in plantations within its natural range as well as in tropical areas of Africa and Latin America.
It is one of the most durable woods known, a fact which can be borne out by its continued use for Marine applications and outdoor furniture. Untreated Teak is a very pleasing honey-brown colour.
